Learn to Run Bend FAQ!

What if I have tried to run but struggled with breathing/gear/heat/cold/motivation/gaining mileage/speed?
You're in the right place. This is a beginner-level group, and these are beginner-level concerns. Learn to Run Bend won't just help you solve these issues, we'll do so while ensuring that your running is JOYFUL!

I'll miss a few sessions. Should I still join LTRB?
The honest answer is that if you already know you'll miss 3 or more sessions, you may want to wait for the next round. Each meeting of LTRB involves both a workout and a clinic. Missing many sessions means you're missing out on much of the content of the training group! It is often difficult for group members to sustain motivation when they miss many workouts. The community of the group suffers, too - we count on each other to show up imperfectly but regularly, and provide accountability for each other.
Will I hold everyone back/be left behind?
Learn to Run Bend is all about learning to run, and speed is mostly irrelevant! We utilize walk/run intervals in all our workouts, and we stay at a 'conversational pace' throughout our workouts - so you'll always be able to catch your breath. We also employ running mentors who are distributed throughout the pack, ensuring that all runners have great company!

I'm returning from injury...
We should talk before you register. At the least, I may ask that you consult with your doctor/physical therapist, etc to determine if you are ready for a 5K training group. Even with clearance from medical professionals, I reserve the right to deny registration if I feel that participation may put you, your health, or other participants at risk.

Will I really be able to run a 5K after 9 weeks?
I've been coaching new 5K runners for 13 years, and I can safely say that anyone who has completed the training plan has completed the 5K! However - I encourage new runners to give themselves some grace when setting a goal for the race. You may complete the 5K while running entirely, with a 1 minute walk break or with several walk breaks. However you complete the 5K is valid - and YOU ARE A RUNNER no matter how you do so!

Please note that the first day of LTRB is different! See below...
What's this about a 'retreat' on the first day of LTRB?
On Saturday, 3/14/26, the first day of LTRB, we'll be meeting from 8:30 to 11:30am in one of the beautiful community spaces at Hanai! This will give us ample time and space to build community, dive into mindset, and enjoy our workout, followed by coffee and snacks!
